My new student intern student out from other applicants - want to know why?

Published over 2 years ago • 1 min read

Something from Lisa

I recently hired a new student intern....honestly, I wish I had time to hire more! Via, short for Olivia, stood out from the other applicants. Read this week's blog to learn how she stood out then share with your student to apply it to their own search for an internship or co-op.

With so many leaving the work force and many open positions nationwide, I just have to believe the time is ripe for student internships.

Get hot tips in this week's blog - read it.

A Curated Resource

One of THE BEST podcasts on college admissions is by Georgia Tech. Regardless of whether you are interested in their school, it's a wealth of information on all things related to admissions.

Last week's episode was on Savvy Questions to ask in college exploration. Get ready to take notes as you listen to it here.

It resonates with my Launch community considering college majors and careers. This week's guest offered the advice that "the best university is the one that makes you the best you that you can be."

THREE items related to college majors:

  • 2:24 Ask what role does the major play in the admissions process
  • 5:45 Questions to ask of yourself start with "what do I want to study" before wasting time on deep dives into schools that won't have your major
  • 13:40 Suggested reading "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People" include #1 Be Proactive and #2 Begin with the end in mind. In this case, career then back to college major - his advice which also has been mine for more than a decade

Take a listen and subscribe to this podcast!

Conversation Cue to Use With Your Child

This week's cue connects the curated resource into conversation. Start with #2...."what do you believe to be the end goal in college for you?" then move on to habit #1 "how can you be proactive in the next month with that vision for your future?".

My Best Always, Lisa

PS Next week I will be sharing about a special event I'm hosting this month to resource your journey.

Something from Lisa I recently interviewed Luisa Rabe who has helped nearly 1,000 students get admitted to medical school. She provides great insight into what high school and college students can be doing to get clear on IF this is a good fit for them as well as what to pursue early to increase their chances at acceptance. If your student has considered any health related field, you won't want to miss her valuable insights. Watch or listen to our interview on the path to medical school here....
